Job Description
Medica develops and manufactures affordable clinical analyzers and other products for the diagnostic laboratory and point-of-care settings. The company’s unique approach to design results in analyzers that are accurate, easy-to-use and maintain, and are ideally suited for the low volume in-vitro diagnostic testing market.
A supply chain opportunity exists for a senior-level individual responsible for the procurement of materials and components for our analyzers and consumable products. This is an on-site position situated in our Bedford, MA location. This person will ultimately manage and consolidate suppliers while strengthening relationships with key partners and contract manufacturers. The role involves working with Medica engineering, production, and quality teams to align purchasing strategies with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for a variety of items including injected molded components, mechanical assemblies, cables/connectors, pcbs, chemicals, and packaging materials.
- Identify and qualify suppliers that meet or exceed Medica’s quality, cost, and delivery targets while ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms that build cost-effective and reliable supplier partnerships.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance based on key metrics such as on-time delivery, quality, and responsiveness.
- Conduct supplier evaluations and audits to ensure alignment with company and regulatory standards.
- Work with engineering, production and quality teams to ensure components meet design, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) by sourcing materials for prototypes and production runs.
- Optimize inventory levels and avoid shortages or excess stocking levels.
- Analyze data and market conditions to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Track procurement performance and report on cost savings, supplier performance, and inventory metrics.
- Lead initiatives related to sourcing, process improvement, and supply chain optimization.
- Train team members on material resource planning tools.
- Ensure all procurement activities align with industry standards and regulatory requirements for medical device manufacturing.
- Maintain accurate supplier records, including certifications and quality agreements.
- Support audits by providing documentation and supplier performance data.
- Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain, including supply disruptions and compliance issues.
- Stay informed about market trends, material availability, and potential regulatory changes that could affect procurement.
- Work with Accounts Payable as well as Logistics to resolve receiving and payable issues.
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with a focus in regulated industries (preferably medical devices).
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, inventory management software, and procurement software. 4th Shift ERP is ideal.
- Proven track record in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and managing global suppliers.
- Knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and experience ensuring compliance with industry regulations (ISO 13485, FDA, etc.).
- Experience with lean manufacturing techniques and continuous improvement activities.

- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in Excel and SQL reporting.
- Knowledge of supply chain management, procurement best practices, and production planning.
Physical and Environmental Considerations
- Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time.
- Required use of standard office equipment including laptop, phone, copier, etc.
- Typical office environment.
- Must be able to walk around the factory floor.
