Cost Accountant
Medica manufactures and develops a line of easy-to-use and maintain, low-cost blood testing analyzers for clinical laboratories. The Company’s growth is a result of its strategic focus on the worldwide need to lower healthcare costs.
This is an outstanding role for an independent and experienced cost accounting professional that will have responsibility for all manufacturing accounting activities, including inventory, warranty, all operational variances, and updating the business system for standard costs. Additional schedules and reconciliations as requested by the Director of Finance.
Job duties:
- Manage the month-end and year-end financial close processes for manufacturing activities.
- Prepare journal entries for cost of sales, warranty, inventory, and all manufacturing production variances.
- Be committed to continuous improvement. Able to search for root cause and develop corrective actions.
- Prepare monthly and yearly schedules and reconciliations for warranty, inventory, scrap, cost of sales, sales, quality, & manufacturing activities.
- Maintain purchase price variance and warranty accrual analyses.
- Prepare entries related to and report on production overhead absorption.
- Maintain standard costs for labor, overhead, and materials.
- Prepare sales and cost of sales budgets and forecasts as well as monthly analysis and reconciliation.
- Review and approve document change notices including cost analysis.
- Schedule and manage annual standard cost review and roll up.
- Conduct inventory excess and obsolescence review, prepare associated journal entries, and work with operations to address issues.
- Work with operations on the cycle count program and report results.
- Prepare year-end audit reports and schedules.
- Monitor manufacturing processes for alignment with financial reporting documents.
- Ensure timeliness and accuracy of company financial reporting documents.
- Perform ad hoc reporting and analyses.
- Interface with Accounts Payable Specialist on inventory-related issues.
- Strong interface with manufacturing operations personnel.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Required Experience:
- 6-10 years of cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ERP systems. Include with response specific systems used.
- Must have extremely strong knowledge related to inventory, both physical and financial. Understands both physical and financial flow of inventory through a manufacturing operation and ERP system.
- Solid PC skills include Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Good knowledge of accounting standards, practices, and controls.
- Experience with standard cost systems and cycle count programs.
- Pay: $95,000 – $110,000 per year depending on experience, education, and skill set.
