Electroanalytical Chemist
Medica Corporation manufactures and develops medical instrumentation for the clinical chemistry market. The Chemist will be part of a dynamic R&D team working on the testing and evaluations of current electrochemical sensors as well as on developing new chemical sensors and biosensors to be integrated in Medica’s analyzers. He/she will assist the Director of Sensor & Reagents group and work closely with other R&D scientists and technicians. This position requires use of the scientific method and modern tools to participate in new sensor development and proof of their performances. The new hired Chemist will be expected to become proficient in the use of analytical laboratory methods and develop the documentation and validation processes within the design of diagnostic medical equipment under current FDA regulations.
Job duties:
- Work with senior R&D staff to solve technical problems on products in both development and production.
- Perform analytical testing and validation of current and/or new electrochemical sensors, their standard calibrating reagents, QC materials, and analyzers. Critically evaluate the analytical results to be obtained.
- Perform testing on sensors and their chemical reagents for shelf life and in-use life stabilities. Prepare VALIDATION Protocols and summarize the data to-be obtained in appropriate VALIDATION Reports.
- Compare the data to-be obtained vs. various reference analyzers.
- Assist in developing feasible manufacturing procedures.
Abilities/Skills:
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong laboratory skills in preparing ion-selective electrodes, biosensors, gas sensors and chemical reagents (solutions) needed to calibrate the sensors.
- Must be detail oriented, organized and possess excellent follow-up skills.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision when necessary.
- Strong computer skills desired.

Requirements:
- MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (Electroanalytical Chemistry, preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Daily transportation to Medica’s office in Bedford, MA
- 1-3 years of industrial experience, preferred
